Character Selection Info & Cannon List
Character Selection:
Multiple characters are allowed however it is encouraged that members aim for diversity when selecting additional characters. Don't select multiple characters who are paired up with each other or monopolize a certain team or location or else it will limit potential iconic character interactions too much. In an effort to maintain this variety and also keep some major characters available selection is separated into the following groups 'Main Characters' 'Supporting Characters' and 'Minor Characters'.
Users may select up to three characters from the major character section, up to five from the supporting character section, and there is no limit on minor character but every user has a capped maximum of 15 characters in total should they wish to use them all.

Re: Character Selection Info & Cannon List
Deceased Characters
The following characters are currently deceased in the time-line. This does not necessarily totally prevent people from ever RPing as them but any application will be much harder to get approved. Staff will evaluate each on a case by case basis relative to whatever else is currently occurring in the site-plot to decide if it can be justified.

Other Character Questions:
What are Linked Accounts?
Linked accounts are additional accounts for the same character in a different timeline that do not take up an additional character slot as they are the same character just aged or in another timeline. To qualify for a linked account a character must have a different appearance in the timeline they are looking to roleplay in. (Eg. Barbara Gordon would be eligible for a linked account in Future Gotham should she have a roleplay planned with someone on those boards)
Can I join as Non-DCAU Comic Book Characters?
The DCAU is an an expanding universe that is originally based on the various incarnations of DC comics. For that reason additional characters from the comics who have not appeared in the DCAU are most definitely accepted and encouraged. However this is very much a DCAU timeline so new incoming characters will often have to totally adapt their backstory or origin story when joining. This might be easier for some characters than others.
Eg. Eobard Thawne's first interactions with Flash and the events that turn him into Reverse Flash being the first roleplay done for the character on the site would be an excellent way to bring the character into the DCAU timeline. However a character such as Jason Todd would have a much harder time ever being approved since his time as Robin never occurred in the DCAU as it went straight from Dick Grayson to Tim Drake.
Characters that complicate any existing character's history will always be rejected. When wanting to introduce a new character from the comics to the DCAU they will have to be adapted to fit the DCAU timeline as though we and all other characters are meeting them for the first time.
Also comic characters that did not appear in the DCAU will have to fill out the "Non-traditional character application". Not only will it ask for a few extra details about the character but will also ask for the character's avatar appearance before being accepted. All characters who did not appear in the DCAU must try to match their appearance on this site to the Bruce Timm artstyle to be accepted.

All non-DCAU comic book characters will take up a supporting character slot or main character slot if the user has no supporting character slots remaining. If the non-DCAU comic character is a regular human with no superpowers or special equipment and operates as a world building character (eg. low level thug, citizen or member of the police force, etc.) then on rare occasions the staff may permit the character to occupy a minor character slot instead.
Can I join as an entirely Original Character?
At this current stage original characters are strongly discouraged. We do not want to limit possibilities and there are times with storytelling that creating a new character is necessary or ideal. However for the most part these characters will either be revised numerous times or flat out rejected unless they are linked to another story arc. We love the DCAU world and want to protect it at all costs so we are very hesitant when it comes to introducing additional characters to the universe.
